Amplify Clubhouse
Amplify Clubhouse* is a collaborative project from 2023-2024 between myself, Ashna Kapadia and Dani Aviles as part of the Amplify Hackathon. Amplify Clubhouse is an imaginary virtual hangout space developed to foster the Amplify community outside of the classroom. The Clubhouse features an incentive-based framework that allows students to earn badges and other rewards for non-prescribed pedagogical work completed.
*Amplify Clubhouse is a proof of concept design only and not a real Amplify product.
Project Brief
When students log in to Student Home, they are prompted with the daily question, “How are you feeling?” but that’s the extent of it. What’s the daily drive for students to actively want to get onto Platform, outside of a prescribed academic lesson? We propose the addition of a playspace within the Student Home to get students engaged with Platform.

Hidden Objects is a mini-game designed to live within this space and act
as a way for students to build upon Vocabulary skills.

Our project lives in this reimagined Student Home space where a dedicated playspace which were calling, Amplify Clubhouse. Clubhouse can be accessed by students during down-time and after hours. When students login to the Amplify Clubhouse, they are greeted by a ‘Welcome’ screen with a brief tour to learn how to navigate the platform. Alternatively, students who know the platform well can skip. Amplify Clubhouse is a virtual hangout space where students can see which of their classmates are online playing games. Also in this playspace, students can view mini games through a badge-earning framework.

Incentive System
Hidden Objects is a time-based game that gives students the space for play while also acting as a vocabulary app.
Hidden Objects is an ‘i-spy’ mini-game where students search for items hidden in an image.
The cards are scaffolded by grades (K-1, 2-3, and 4-5) for age appropriateness, and the art correlates to the core curriculum and subject matters being taught.
Students are presented with an image card and search bank below. GK-1 have an image bank. G2-3 have an image and word bank, and G4-5 exclusively have a word bank. The cards also grow in difficulty with students.
We developed 6 proof of concept cards for the HIdden Objects game grouping them into 3 grade-band categories, GK-1, G2-3, and G4-5.
GK-1 use only images in the bank section. G2-3 use the word and image, G4-5 use only the word which makes for a more age appropriate game-play experience that is challenging and engaging!
Students must complete 4 mini-games associated with a certain badge to earn it. Once students earn that badge, unique avatar skins, clothing or accessories can also be unlocked. In completion of the ‘Adventure Badge’, students unlock the the ‘Safari hat’.
Once the students have unlocked the accessory, they can view the new accessory in the student avatar builder to be used to customize their avatar.
